Introduction
Six Sigma is a proven disciplined approach for improving
measurable results for any organization.
Companies leveraging the Six Sigma methodology have
driven their operations to world class performance
levels. Six Sigma creates superior customer satisfaction
through process perfection by reducing variation,
increasing quality and focusing on continuous
improvement. A Six Sigma quality level is said to equate
to 3.4 defects per million opportunities; however, the
term in practice is used to denote more than simply
counting defects. Six Sigma goes beyond defect reduction
to emphasize business process improvement in general,
which includes cost reduction, cycle-time improvement,
increased customer satisfaction and any other metric
important to the company. Six Sigma can now imply a
whole culture of strategies, tools, and statistical
methodologies to improve the bottom line of companies.
An objective of Six Sigma is to eliminate every ounce of
waste that can be found in an organization’s processes.
Conservatively $500,000 TO $1,000,000 bottom-line
benefits can be achieved yearly on average for dedicated
six sigma practitioners (often called a Six Sigma Black
Belt -a term originated by Motorola). These achievements
are accomplished through six sigma projects that can
average $75,000 to $175,000 in value through the
improvement of cycle time, reduction of defects, cost
reduction, etc.
Our Consultants
All of our consultants have extensive real world
experience with Six Sigma, Lean, or both, and we offer a
full range of consulting services. We have a large pool
of Master Black Belts and Black Belts who are being
supported by proven implementation methodologies.
Six Sigma Implementation
Services
Our Six Sigma Implementation Methodology is based on a
multi-phase approach as the whole process involves a
major change within the organization. We believe that
organizations that have addressed the "vital few" things
effectively have enjoyed much greater success than those
that have focused on just training some people. Derived
from the pareto chart, the term indicates that many
defects come from relatively few causes (the 80/20
rule). For example, 20% of the people in the country
make up 80% of the wealth of the country. When we apply
this "Vital Few" Scorecard to a deployment, we can
almost predict the probability of success. Accordingly,
the phases are defined as;
Commit
In this phase, the top management
commits to deploying a performance improvement
initiative. The scope and goals need to be laid out and
thought given as to how the initiative will integrate
into other initiatives currently underway. Typically,
during this phase we work with our client to develop a
specific and focused deployment plan. This includes
assessing current business capabilities, critical
processes and gaining an understanding of the company's
culture.
Our services:
- Provide an overview of improvement methodologies
- Conduct a focused, collaborative "Analysis &
Design" including Organizational Analysis, Integration
Analysis, Deployment Design and Business Case
Development.
- Conduct Executive Briefings and Coaching
Plan
During this phase, an organization
conducts the requisite upfront planning and establishes
the appropriate infrastructure. Depending upon the scope
of the improvement initiative, this includes
establishing a Steering Committee or Quality Council,
establishing goals and an appropriate performance
management system, resource identification including
selecting the appropriate individuals to lead and
participate in the effort, project selection, addressing
human resource issues and developing an appropriate
communications strategy.
Our Services:
- Executive Coaching
- Strategic Deployment Training and Facilitation
- Human Resources Planning
- Project Identification and Selection
- Deployment Design
Initiate
During this phase, an organization conducts additional
management training, conducts an initial wave of
training, achieves early wins, establishes
proof-of-concept, reviews lessons learned, modifies the
plan as appropriate and makes an affirmative plan to
continue.
Our services:
- Executive and Champion Training, Mentoring and
Coaching
- Employee Training, Mentoring and Coaching
- Project Support
- Establishment of Key Metrics
- Analysis of Progress
- Input into Decision-making
Accelerate
At this point the organization expands beyond the
initial pilot wave and quickens the pace of training and
deployment. It is during this phase of training that the
training responsibility transitions from us to the
client organization; this results in client personnel
assuming training and coaching responsibilities from our
team. During this period several things occur including
the modification of the original deployment plan, if
necessary, and the communication of initial project
successes to the rest of the organization.
Our services:
- Training, Mentoring and Coaching Support
- Transition Planning and Implementation
- Train-the-Trainer Sessions
Maintain
In this phase, an organization continues to expand the
initiative and works to ensure that the previous
training and performance gains are sustained. This could
very well be the most difficult phase since it is easy
to lose focus.
Our services:
- Assessments
- Executive Coaching
- Other
Of the five phases, we believe Phases
One and Two to be the most important. In other words, if
these two phases are done properly, the odds of success
go up dramatically. This is because they typically
address five of the six "vital few" highlighted above. |
